STONY BROOK, NY, July 8, 2026 – Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has secured the No. 1 spot in New York State on Money’s Best Hospitals for Pediatric Care list for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its leadership in providing exceptional care to children and families on Long Island and beyond.
In the 2026 rankings, SBUH received the highest possible grade for pediatric care, earning an A+ based on performance on five key quality metrics: mortality (22%), safety (22%), readmissions (22%), patient experience (22%) and timely and effective care (12%).

The SBUH analysis includes data from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital (SBCH), the first and only children’s hospital in Suffolk County. With more than 180 pediatric specialists in 30 specialties, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital is the only Level 4 regional perinatal center and the only Level 1 regional pediatric trauma center in Suffolk County. It is home to the country’s first pediatric multiple sclerosis center and also offers a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, a Duchenne muscular dystrophy center, a celiac disease and gluten sensitivity center, a healthy weight and wellness center, a cystic fibrosis center, a pediatric hematology/oncology program, a pediatric cardiology program and a pediatric HIV and AIDS center.
The hospital recently celebrated a major milestone with the groundbreaking of construction of its expanded pediatric emergency department, a transformational project to meet the growing demand for specialized pediatric services. The expanded facility will include dedicated pediatric trauma and critical care areas, specialized critical care and ambulance bays, and will have the capacity to care for more than 35,000 pediatric patients annually.
Money’s annual rankings evaluate hospitals across the country using publicly available data to help families identify the top-performing facilities that provide outstanding pediatric care.
