The final signature event of the 2026 season came to a close on Monday when 72 of the PGA Tour’s best – the top two, really – failed to finish the tournament before dark on Sunday at the 2026 Travelers Championship. With TPC River Highlands hosting the final signature event of the season, the Travelers offered players the final chance to secure their share of $20 million in prize money before the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Due to poor weather late Sunday and the need for a playoff after Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler played the first 72 holes to a score of 21 under, everyone met again Monday morning for the playoff holes. However, it only took one more attempt on the 18th to determine a champion, as Hovland made his putt from 7 feet while Scheffler’s attempt from 3 feet missed the hole, costing the world No. 1 a whopping $1.44 million (the difference in prize money between first and second place in Cromwell, Connecticut).
Hovland takes home $3.6 million for his efforts, Scheffler includes a check for $2.2 million – certainly nothing to get excited about. What’s even more frustrating for Scheffler is that since his last win at the first tournament of the season, The American Express, he now has four runner-up finishes and eight top-five finishes.
Anyone who finished in the top 11 this week will take home at least $500,000, while the top 36 were guaranteed a six-figure win.
