The War Department today announced a new round of awards under the Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) program. This represents an important milestone as the program has received more than $2 billion in total awards since its inception.
This latest cohort builds on APFIT’s proven track record of rapidly transitioning cutting-edge technologies into operational use, providing the warfighter with over 100 unique capabilities in speed and scale to date.
“APFIT has fundamentally changed the way the War Department accelerates the transition of innovative technologies to combat aircraft,” said Emil Michael, Undersecretary of State for Research and Technology at the War Department. “Our adversaries are not waiting, and neither will we. By scaling the APFIT program to over $2 billion, we are equipping the Joint Force with lethal capabilities to ensure battlefield dominance.”
By aligning funding with near-term operational needs, APFIT has enabled the rapid deployment of mission-critical systems across all mission domains, including autonomous systems, electronic warfare, expeditionary manufacturing, unmanned defense systems (c-UAS), resilient communications, contested logistics and resilient energy.
A key feature of APFIT’s success has been its ability to integrate emerging innovators into the national security ecosystem and expand the defense industrial base through partnerships with small, non-traditional and venture capital-backed companies. APFIT has provided innovative companies with a path to deliver impactful solutions without the traditional hurdles of defense procurement.
