It may not be the red wine they were playing for, but it’s fair to say that winning the Corales-Puntacana Championship on Sunday marked a life-changing change for Stefano Mazzoli too. The 29-year-old Italian had only competed in a PGA Tour event twice before and the only victory he had before Sunday in the Dominican Republic was a trio of Ws on the Alps Tour. Suffice it to say he was pretty emotional after a final-round 66 gave him a one-shot victory over Todd Clements and Gordon Sargent at the Puntacana Resort.
There was also a nice little prize money to be won. The total budget at the Puntacana Resort was $4 million, with Mazzoli earning $720,000.
